Videocon Telecom, which sold spectrum its six circles to Airtel this year, is now all set to offer its mobile services to Pan India which also include 3G and 4G, in the following 6-8 months as a virtual network operator.(VNO).

As per the statement given by Videocon Telecom CEO Arvind Bali they are in the final stage of applying for virtual network operator license. The MVNO process is generally quick and is expected to take about 6-8 months.

Videocon telecom had sold its 1800 Mhz band spectrum in six circles to Bharti Airtel but it still hold the 2G spectrum in Punjab. The CEO also mentioned that one of reasons to for them to exit this space was being a predominant 2G player and hence were technologically outdated.

He said that while by overhauling Videocon’s system to a 2.75G EDGE Network, the organization was to some extent ready to contend in this sector against 3G players, yet quick move towards 4G would have made it outdated and truly uncompetitive.

The organization at present has pan-India Internet service provider license. Furthermore it also gives 2G mobile services in the Punjab circle. With VNO permit, it has plans to upgrade the data services in Punjab and then target and expand to the other circles. The priority list to launch the services is as follows: Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, MP and Delhi.

The name of the partner operator is not revealed as of now as the whole plan is at an initial stage. It is mentioned though like how MVNO format/model works there can be multiple partners.
