The Chinese smartphone giant, Xiaomi, announced its latest Mi Note 2 & Mi Mix smartphones at a gala event in Beijing, but now the company has revealed that these two smartphones aren’t coming to India.
“Mi Note 2 and Mi Mix are not coming to India,” said Hugo Barra, vice president global operations, Xiaomi told PCMag India.
“The reason why is very simple to explain. Our portfolio in India is very small. We focus on having one flagship every year which is Mi 5. From a portfolio perspective, we have one flagship a year in India,” he added in the statement.
Barra explained that in India it didn’t currently have the capabilities to market two flagship smartphones in the country. He, however, did reassure that this could change next year.
Barra also revealed that it was unlikely that the company would launch the Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus smartphones in India. He stated that he was hesitant to launch a phone in India after it was a couple of months old. He also stated that the he regretted launching the Mi 4 in India after a couple of months.
Similarly, he stated that Xiaomi should have launched the 64GB of the Mi 5 in India, even if that meant the phone costed a little more.
On a happier note, Barra revealed that the Xiaomi’s Mi Home experience centres would be launching in India.
Mi Home’s are Xiaomi’s stores which are kind of like Apple’s stores which are canvases for its ecosystem of devices.
The Mi Note 2 has been launched in China for RMB 2799 and it pre-orders go live tonight, while the Mi Max will go on sale in China for a starting price of 3499 on November 4.
In the case of the Mi Mix, Xiaomi doesn’t expect to sell millions of the device considering how hard it is to manufacture the phone and how expensive it is.
