Google-owned YouTube will now start showing Indian users content in their local or preferred languages on ‘Home’ and ‘Trending’ tabs. This will surely enhance users experience as they can personalize it. Language preference is based on a combination of user interface language, watch history, and location. However, if YouTube has identified wrong language for you than you can easily change it manually. YouTube will atomically save your preference of language. This includes various languages like Hindi, Gujarati, Bengali, Punjabi, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Telugu and Tamil.
Marcel Gordon, product Manager, YouTube in a press statement said “We are excited to help more Indians find content in their local languages, especially those who are coming online for the first time. We hope this will make their experience even more engaging and relevant. We’re equally excited to help regional content creators reach audiences in their local languages more quickly,”
YouTube will now be showing you local language content in two sections on its website, Home and Trending.
- On Home, users will now be able to see more local content such as music and movies, if you are a first time user. You will continue to receive great recommendations based on your watch history, if you’re an existing YouTube user.
- Trending will now show videos trending based on your local language. For example, if you have selected Punjabi as your preference, Trending will contain videos that are trending amongst Punjabi-speaking users in India.
