As per report released by International Data Corporation (IDC) 4G tablet shipments in India ascended by 55% consecutively in the September quarter , however the total tablet shipments became just rose by 7.8%, even as merchants arranged the channel to oblige the purchaser interest for up and coming festive month.
In the span of July-September the tablet shipments which also include slate and detachable was reported 1.06 million. This number was stagnant when compared to last month’s data during the same time.
Karthik J, senior market analyst, client devices, IDC India said “4G tablets account for almost one-fourth of total tablet shipments in CY Q3 2016 in relative to 15.3% in the first quarter of this year,”
Analysts at IDC have also predicted in the report that the tablet shipments are expected to fall in the quarter of October-December as it comes off from the hike for festive season of the previous quarter. As far as detachables are concerned the firm has said its shipments are expected to be healthy in the last quarter of 2016 and account a little above 5% of the total shipment. This is number is more against contribution of 2.7% last year.
The report also detailed that for the September quarter Datawind gained the top spot among tablet vendors in India with a market share of 26.1% in the third quarter of 2016. The second in the queue was Samsung tablets experiencing a growth of 26.2% over previous quarter.
iBall took the third spot, though the growth rate was only 2.9%. and with 15.5% sequential growth Lenovo stood fourth.
Karthik J also spoke about the Commercial segment which according to him continues to grow at a healthy pace making over one-fifth of total tablet shipments. Segments like large Enterprise segments Education and Government are key drivers of this segment.
