Airports Authority of India selects Tata Elxsi as design consultant for airports


Tata Elxsi, a design services provider, has announced that the AAI has selected it to design information and technology guidelines for all its airports. The selection was through a competitive global bid to improve passenger experience for all airports managed by AAI (Airports Authority of India).

AAI, a foundation of the Civil Aviation sector in India, is entrusted with the responsibility of creating, maintaining, upgrading and managing civil aviation infrastructure in India for both the ground and airspace.

Tata Elxsi will work as a strategic design partner and help AAI to provide a seamless passenger travel experience. They will be mainly responsible for setting the wayfinding and information design guidelines for all the upcoming AAI airports.

Tata Elxsi will set up a team and create a process to not only design but to implement also a world-class customer-centric information and wayfinding system for AAI. This will also cover the complete journey from parking to boarding the plane by making the places efficient and user-friendly. The design will be based on the global standards and Tata Elxsi will set the guidelines for all future airports.

Tata Elxsi, Chief Designer, Service Design, Narendra Ghate, said, “Having worked in the past on redefining the passenger experience for some leading airports in India, gave Tata Elxsi an edge. We are happy that AAI chose us as their strategic design consultant. We look forward to helping AAI create a seamless and enhanced travel experience for all passengers for the above said airports”.

The team at Tata Elxsi has already started working on creating an insightful, customer-centric wayfinding system and developing an exclusive image for various airport terminals including 10 shortlisted airports i.e. Goa, Kolkata, Lucknow, Chennai, Varanasi, Bhubaneswar, Thirvananthapuram, Pune, Coimbatore and Guwahati.
