Government will formulate new policy to boost electronics manufacturing


Government is setting up plans to turn out a fresh electronics as well as a software product strategy and will set up innovative zones for new companies.

Law and IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said, “We will be shortly laying down the new electronics policy because between the old policy and (now), India under Narendra Modi has changed completely. Therefore, to boost electronics manufacturing, we will come up with new policy,”

The 1st National Policy on Electronics was defined in 2012 and was officially permitted by the Cabinet in 2013.

Prasad said that the new policy will look at development zones in electronics manufacturing segment.

“There is need to look at inward software market. Therefore we will come with a new software product policy and we are going to have framework for data security and protection policy,” Prasad said.

Mr. Ravi Shankar Prasad also said there is agreement between the government and the industry to explore intersection between Digital India and India based startups for which the government will set up an innovative zone.
