‘India ka intelligent phone’ Reliance Jio termed its new phone launched.


Reliance industry held its 40th annual general meeting (AGM) today in Mumbai where Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, unveiled the widely speculated Jio feature phones. Jio Phone, the ultra-budget feature phone will hit the market by August 15 for beta testing. Its pre-booking will starts from August 24 and it will be free of cost and to avoid any potential misuse, the will collect a security deposit of Rs 1,500, which they will refund after 3 years.

Jio Phone will come with some pre-installed services such as JioTV and JioCinema apps and it runs on VoLTE network. The device also has its own digital assistant along with the 24 languages in it and support for voice commands. Reliance says that to directly call their near and dear ones users can long press on the ‘5’ key.

Alongside the new device a few low-priced Jio 4G plans was announced by the company at the Reliance Industries AGM. Voice calls will always remain free on the Jio Phone, said Ambani. Users will also get access to unlimited data on the device. These, in addition to Jio applications (Jio Dhan Dhana Dhan plan) monthly cost will be Rs 153.

The phone comes with 512 MB RAM and 4GB of inbuilt storage along with the screen size of 2.4-inch, dual-SIM functionality and microSD card for extra storage space. The device is also said to feature a 2MegaPixel rear camera along with a VGA front-facing camera. It is backed by a 2000mAh battery; the Jio feature phone will also include Bluetooth v4.1 and FM radio under the connectivity section.

The shipment of the phone should begin from July-end or early August and it has an app store called KaiOS Plus along with Facebook app.

Alongwith the Jio Phone, the device was announced some low-priced Jio 4G plans at the Reliance Industries AGM.

Recently, for both pre-paid and post-paid users Reliance Jio revamped its tariff plans. Though the new plans start at just Rs 19, the data offered and the validity of most of the plans has been increased. The daily FUP limit and other offers remain the same for all plans, including free voice calling.
